Child & Adolescent Psychology

Tailored psychological support for children and teenagers.

What It Involves

Child and adolescent therapy provides age-appropriate psychological support for young people experiencing emotional, behavioural, social or developmental challenges.

Our psychologists tailor their approach to the child or adolescent’s age, individual needs and circumstances, creating a supportive environment where they can safely express themselves, develop greater emotional awareness and build practical coping skills.

Where appropriate, therapy may involve collaboration with parents, carers, families, schools or other health professionals to better understand the young person’s needs and provide consistent support across the important areas of their life.

The overall aim is to strengthen emotional wellbeing, confidence, resilience and healthy development while supporting families with practical strategies to help their child or teenager thrive.

Who It's For

Child and adolescent therapy is designed for children and teenagers who may be experiencing emotional, behavioural, developmental, social or school-related difficulties, as well as families seeking guidance and support.

It may be helpful for young people experiencing anxiety, low mood, emotional regulation difficulties, behavioural concerns, friendship or social challenges, family changes, school pressures, bullying, confidence issues or difficulties adjusting to significant life events.

Therapy can also support parents and carers by providing practical strategies, greater understanding of their child’s needs, and guidance on how to create a supportive environment at home and across other areas of their life.

What to Expect

Sessions are tailored to the child or adolescent’s age, developmental stage, individual needs and circumstances, creating a supportive environment where they can feel comfortable communicating and engaging in therapy.

Depending on their age and needs, sessions may involve conversation, activities and practical strategies designed to help young people better understand and manage their emotions, behaviours and everyday challenges.

Parents or carers may also be involved where appropriate, particularly when their input can help provide a clearer understanding of the young person’s circumstances or support positive changes at home.

Your psychologist will work collaboratively with the young person and their family to establish appropriate goals, regularly review progress, and adapt the therapeutic approach as their needs develop over time
